A person who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on recently.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was held in detention prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.

Ruben engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had worries in July 2025.

The prosecutor added: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They resolved" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson alerted the authorities about his suspicions.

She said Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a room of five minors.
